The Original Madison Square Garden was located at Fifth and Madison Avenue between 26th and 27th Street.
It was built it 1890 and demolished in 1924. The cost of construction was $3 million and it held an audience of 17,000.
It was considered, "one of the great institutions of the town, to be mentioned along with Central Park and the bridge of Brooklyn."

The building was 200 feet by 485 feet and had a tower soaring 32 stories over Madison Square Park.
The building also had a 1,200-seat theater, a concert hall with a capacity of 1,500, and had the largest restaurant in the city.

It was Renamed MSG II after minor renovations. It survived for 34 years until the New York Life Insurance Company which held a mortgage
on the land, decided to demolish the building in 1924.

It was built on 50th Street and Eighth Avenue by boxing promoter Tex Rickard and was dubbed "The House That Tex Built"
It had a maximum seating capacity of 18,496 spectators.

Existing trolley car barns were torn down to make room for the new arena, which was constructed in only 249 days.
Boxing was Madison Square Garden III's claim to fame.

The name of the building was actually abbreviated to: Madison Sq. Garden.
The building's unique feature was its marquee above the main entrance

This structure was built on February 14, 1968. It opened after the Pennsylvania Railroad tore down Penn Station
continued railway traffic underneath.

The Garden was one of the first of its kind, because it was built above an active railroad system.
It was constructed by R.E. McKee of El Paso, Texas. The owner and operator of MSG is Cablevision through Madison Square Garden, L.P.
It cost $123 million USD to construct.

In 1991, Garden owners spent $200 million to renovate the facilities and add 89 suites.
On April 3, 2008 MSG executives announced plans to once again renovate the current Garden in time for the Knicks and Rangers' 2011–12 seasons.
