Distant Drums Fanzine

Distant Drums
Apart of being a song name what is this you are asking ?

it's a fanzine maintained by fans and collectors
it's all about their passion for the wailers past and glory.
i wanted to do a page about this nice fanzine for quite a long time now.

You are now curious about the history of Distant Drums ?
okey, dear reader

Almost 11 years ago , in England,a couple of friends wanted to do something good
their passion for Bob Marley And The Wailers was strong

Their name is :
Wayne Auchaybur, Jeremy Collingwood, Glen Lockley

in fact all started after a chat with Roger Steffens
inside his room at Amsterdam's Omega Hotel in the summer of 1993

while touring for his "The Life of Bob Marlev video show"
he meet a fan named Glen Lockley and he was asked about an idea since
there was no real Bob Marley And The Wailers fan club magazine

they were asking about the idea of starting one
Roger input (i confirm that this dude is always right ;)) was good
and he said "yeah mon why don't you guys start one?"

Another person had an important impact about this fanzine

Jeremy Collingwood was involved from the begining , he helped to make it
and distribute it.

He invested in a computer , and then used his contacts to try and develop the magazine.

Glen was the editor and pulled it all together.
Several people wrote articles and contributed.

Jeremy financed the magazine, got all the adverts and looked after printing, distribution and sales.

It's been hard as promised help from Island never happened, apart of few adverts.

James Wilson (owner of the bob marley super site)helped as well and then moved on .

Nowdays Sam a new comer is involved and put a lots of new energy to keep it moving on.

The fanzine evolved from single paper page to achieve the rank of a must have magazine

!IMPORTANT NOTICE Since its launch in 1994
Distant Drums has grown from its humble origins
into a publication respected by Wailers fans around the world.

Unfortunately though the immense workload involved in its
production hassimply become too great for the small but dedicated team.

Generally speaking, our continued efforts to recruit new contributors have proved to be very frustrating.

Thus, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of Distant Drums.

I am still very interested in producing an annual Wailers magazine, but it needs a fresh, better structured approach.

We need to assemble a team of reliable contributors who can submit print-ready articles to an agreed deadline.
