The Beat Magazine

i made this page because a reader from England told me that
it was hard to get the beat in his country i also wanted to pay tribute to them for their nice and worth it annual edition.

the history of the beat magazine ?
okey, here facts to feed your appetite of knowledge dear reader
Roger Steffens, CC Smith were the founders of this paper magazine

Roger has been co-host of "The Reggae Beat" (1979-1987) and "The Reggae Beat International" (1983-1987)
heard on 130 radio stations worldwide

no one is more able to talk about it than roger (excerpt from an interview of him) :

The Beat, the reggae/world beat magazine that I co-founded in 1982.
It started as a one-page playlist for my National Public Radio L.A. based radio show
"The Reggae Beat"

Each year in May I edit an annual Bob Marley Collectors' Edition of The Beat

note that at the begining The Beat was a combination playlist of the Reggae Beat show
that Hank Holmes and Roger did for their radio show.
(the same Hank Holmes with who roger did an interview of bob marley)

It also had a listing of upcoming events.
The very first issue was a 14" two-sided broadsheet that got folded into a 12 pager
in the second issue of the magazine.

By the end of 1982, the magazine had become an 11 x 8 black and white publication.
The first colour cover followed a year after.

Roger now writes a bi-monthly column called 'Ras Rojah's Reggae Ramblings'

Apart of this annual collector edition , the Beat talks about reggae music and black culture
Severals reporters worldwide all working on a volunteer basis means no one get paid
